After years of intense revolutionary actions, on Jan. 14, 1784, the United States finally ratified a peace agreement with England, thus effectively securing formal independence from England. A series of surprising defeats and support from France allowed the Continental Army and supporting militia forces to conquer the firmly intact British Army.
