Mom always told me that she and Ralph would go down to have breakfast with their Dad. And one morning he was there but did not respond. He had died of the tuberculosis. He had a brother who also died of the tuberculosis.
Mom and Ralph went to live with different relatives. Aunt Lou Klise took them both in Indianapolis. They were so close--almost like twins. One of her father's sisters would have taken Hazel (as she was known then) into their home, but she wasn't girlish enough for them (they couldn't cope with the tomboy).
