Serious and dependable, highly regarded for his defensive skills, Strunk topped AL outfielders in fielding average five times. He was a solid lefthanded hitter who rarely struck out. A native Philadelphian, he played in four World Series with the A's before Ed Barrow obtained him fromConnie Mack to bolster the 1918 Red Soxdefense. With Strunk in centerfield, Boston won the 1918 WS. Mack reacquired him in June 1919. With the White Sox in 1923, Strunk led the AL with 12 pinch hits in 39 attempts. (EC)
