My name is John E. Schweitzer. I have much more research to do, but here is a quick overview of my Uncle Ralph's service. He served in Europe during WWII in the 285th Field Artillery Observation Battalion, the unit which was the object of Joachim Peiper's attrocities at Malmedy, Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malmedy_massacre
Though Ralph was not with the men who were captured, he was affected severely by the loss of so many of his friends and the way in which they were killed. Sadly he carried guilt for the rest of his life and suffered what is known today as PTSD. Ralph and brothers Frank Cletus (Clete) Schweitzer 30th ID, John Clement (Clem) Schweitzer Co A, 35th Engineer Combat Battalion (my Dad) were all engaged in the Battle of the Bulge. Ralph at Malmedy, Clete at Spa, Clem at Clervaux, Luxembourg and surrounded in Bastogne with the 101st Airborne. Vincent (Vince) another brother was in Europe as well. I will need to do more research on Vince's service. More to come. Anyone have any information, please add.
