George Washington Selected to Command the Continental Army contains hundreds of documents relating to George Washington and the founding of the United States of America. This is an account of the Continental Congress selecting George Washington to command all the forces fighting against the British Army. At the time of his appointment, on June 15, 1775, Washington refused a salary for his services and told the Congress he would bill them at the end of the war. On July 1, 1783, Washington submitted to the Continental Board of Treasury his expense account.
