Sewell was born on June 6, 1840 in Easton, Massachusetts and was working as a carpenter in the Frankford section of Philadelphia when he was mustered into Company D, Pennsylvania 71st Infantry on May 28, 1861. Corporal Randall was Killed In Action on October 21, 1861 at the Battle of Ball’s Bluff in Virginia.

From the Philadelphia Inquirer October 28, 1861:_ “He was New Englander…He was a gallant, chivalrous fellow, unmarried and twenty-two years of age._ He formerly worked at a shovel mill. Randall was shot through the left side and leg and died soon thereafter”.

He is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery and was survived by his father, Melvin, his stepmother, Mary, his brother, Grandville Watson, and his sister, Mary Louisa.
