Through my research of some LEWIS', I began some research on this one. There are "no direct living descendants of THIS, Meriweather LEWIS.

First to background myself - I worked for the Mary Ball Washington Museum in Lancaster County as a genealogist for 18 years, winding up as head of research. The director of the museum was Ann Meriwether Lewis Burrows and a close friend of mine.
At her death I was given all of her family papers to put in order by her only surviving sibling. It was a wealth of information, including information on her great grandfather Meriwether Lewis.
So here is Meriwether-
son of Warner Lewis and second wife Catherine Butler
born 17 Feb 1827 at "Lewis Level", Essex Co. VA
died 25 July 1883 Litwalton, Lancaster Co. VA
married 22 Nov 1853 at "Beulah", Lancaster Co. VA to Julia

Meriwether and Julia had three children:
Dr. Frank Waring Lewis b. 28 May 1852 Litwalton, Lanc. Co. d. 14 Feb 1928 Lanc. Co. mar. 12 Nov 1884 Virginia G. Massie
Elizabeth Harriet Lewis b. 28 Apr 1855 Litwalton, Lanc. Co. mar. 27 Nov 1890 Robert Milton Neale (one son died in infancy)
Addie Bell Lewis b. 28 Oct 1858 Litwalton, Lanc. Co. d. 29 July 1859 Lanc. Co.
Dr. Frank W. Lewis and Virginia G. Massie had three children:
Edmund Meriwether Lewis b. 5 Sept 1885 Litwalton, Lanc. Co. d. 12 Feb 1960 mar. 16 July 1913 Janet Scott (no issue).
Dr. Frank Waring Lewis Jr. b. 11 Jul 1888 Litwalton. Lanc. Co. d. 1 Mar 1935 mar. 1st 8 Jan 1920 Olga Fischer ( 1 daughter Elizabeth b.14 Feb 1923) 2nd. 8 Oct 1927 Patsy Ida Wickline ( 3 children Ann Meriwether Lewis no issue, Patricia Waring Lewis 2 sons, Frank Waring Lewis III never married)
Julia Louise Lewis b. 15 Mar 1893 Litwalton, Lanc. Co. never married.
Meriwether Lewis was a medical doctor received his degree 1852 moved to Lancaster Co. from Essex Co. soon afterwards.
9th Virginia Cavalry, Robert K. Krick:
Lewis, Meriwether: b. 2/17/1827 in Essex Co. attended the University of Virginia. Physician and Virginia Legislator. Entered service on 6/16/61 as Capt. Co. D, Promoted to Major 4/29/62 and to Lt. Col. ca. 10/18/62. Wounded and taken prisoner at Upperville (lung wound). Lewis resigned as a result of his wounds, effective 5/9/64, d. 7/25/1883.
Elizabeth Harriet Lewis Neale wrote at lenght of her father's life both in Essex Co. and in Lancaster Co. According to her when Meriwether was wounded and left for dead he was taken care of
by a Union brother Mason and later returned to Confederate lines in Culpeper. After recuperating at home (after his wife finally found him and brought him home) he returned to his unit.
He was a senator during Reconstruction in the Virginia State Legislature.
I have his line back to Robert Lewis b. 1607 in Wales, the first to come to Virginia of this line. I have checked my Lewis file to see if any of the surnames you mentioned were in it but I am sorry to say they are not.
I would suggest getting a copy of your father's birth certificate to get proof of his father's name. Run that name in the 1900 census and see if you hit. If you keep digging on your grandfather you should stumble across his father's name. Also since your great grandfather was murdered you could try the newpaper morgues in the area in which he lived.
I wish I could have helped you but you can rule out Col. Meriwether Lewis of Essex and Lancaster Counties.

6.Reuben BUTLER was born January 27, 1747-48 in Virginia, and died 20 JAN 1829 in Granville Cty, NC.

7.Anne Lisle SMELT was born 1758, and died 1843 in Granville City, NC.

Child of Anne Lisle SMELT and Reuben BUTLER is: 3.  i.Catherine BUTLER. She married Warner LEWIS 2 DEC 1823 in Essex Co., VA, son of John Taliaferro LEWIS and Susanna WARING. He was born 13 DEC 1786 in Essex Co., VA, and died 1873 in VA.
