Soldier's name here was "James A. Williams." See his "Volunteer Enlistment" document with identical info, e.g., occupation as "boatman." James A. Williams, Co. H. of this images does NOT match the James A. Williams, Company I, of the other frames. On Company Muster Rolls for "Mar & Apl" and "May & June" 1865, JAW, Company I, was "Detached as Teamster per S.O. No. 9, 25th A.C., Jany 9 '65." JAW is named as one of the "Colored Soldiers" from North Castle, Westchester County, NY, in Scharf's County History, Vol. II, p. 636. He ...more
