Compiled service records consist of a jacket-envelope for each soldier, labeled with his name, rank, and unit. It typically contains card abstracts of a soldier's original muster and hospital rolls, descriptive books, lists of deserters, returns, notational cards, and possibly enlistment papers, casualty sheets, death reports, prisoner of war papers, and correspondence. This is the civil war record for my great grandfather Abraham Adkins who served in Nebraska. It describes what he was paid for his horse and other items including a pistol. I have a photo of Abraham but have not found his death record. He died in 1885. Born 1827 in Ohio.
