"Real boy"... little-known fact: A .22 rifle was Pinocchio's first gift from the Blue Fairy.

"The christmas story" comes to mind.

Favorite line: "Nothing on earth gives a boy more pleasure than a gun."

True in 1919 and still true in 2010!

    1. All guns are always loaded! 2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you're not willing to destroy! 3. Finger off the trigger until sights are on the target! 4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it! Be safe and enjoy the shooting sports!

My father was seven weeks old when this ad appeared. Children will listen: World War II Korea Vietnam Granada Iraq (twice) Afghanistan When will they ever learn?

How very American! I love my American friends and relatives but I'm so glad my grandparents chose to migrate to Canada from the US at the turn of the last century. An ad such as this would never appear in a Canadian newspaper, I think.

Wow. I am amazed at the variety of emotions and memories this nearly 100 year old ad evoked. From favorite movies to laments about the futility of war. That is a powerful ad.

Should have said the "range" not "variety" of emotions
