9 Aug 1945 -- U.S. sub learns Russia is an Ally

U.S.S. Pargo WWII Submarine Patrol Report, Confidential, for 9 August 1945. On patrol near Vladivostok, the crew hears a US broadcast saying Russia had entered the war against Japan. 4 1/2 hours later they received official word that Russia was once again an ally, and that they were being assigned a new operating area.
