American Paul de Launay Recieves French Legion of Honor, France's Highest Award
Paul de Launay was born in Paris, and was a third cousin of french impressionist artist Gustave Caillebotte, and second cousin of Paul Valpinçon, life-long friend of Edgar Degas who was painted by Degas at his home in Menil-Hubert (Basse-Normandie). Paul de Launay was the eldest son of Dr. Jules & Anna (Ollerenshaw) de Launay, the first American Protestant missionaries to France. Paul was born during their first year in Paris in 1878.
