Matilda Breckinridge Bowyer suggests her son to recruit and drill black Confederate soldiers, 1865
This letter, from Matilda Bowyer to her cousin Gen. John C. Breckinridge, recommends her son to recruit and train black soldiers for the Confederacy, March 26, 1865. She thinks that he will be successful due to his experience as a slaveowner and she also thinks it will be good for his health to take a break from the winter campaigns.
