" HANG DOWN YOUR HEAD TOM DOOLEY, POOR BOY YOU'RE BOUND TO DIE "

Tom was from the same Western North Carolina mountians as my Land ancestors in Wilkes County, He was the one about whom the ballad was written He was executed in 1868 for the murder of Laura Foster. Rev.Linville Land made his coffin.

    Rev Land was a 1st cousin to my gr,gr, grandfather, David Land. The Rev's brother, CSA Lt. Thomas C. Land 1st & 53rd N.C.Inf wrote the poem " The Death of Laura Foster " Tom " sat on his coffin and played his banjo on the way to his execution.

    I believe Tom was my 5 times great uncle. It's great to see actual record of his service. I come from a long line of Wilkes county families. Thanks for the spotlight!
