Sale of Family to Slave Trader Ziba B Oakes Rescinded, Charleston, SC, 1856
Ziba B Oakes was a Charleston slave trader who was quite active in the domestic slave trade in the 1850s. Here, his purchase of an enslaved family was rescinded when it was learned that he planned to separate the children from their mother and sell them out of state.
