    Artificier James W Thomas died September 27, 1864 in the Centralia (Missouri) Massacre, murdered by Bloody Bill Anderson's drunken guerrillas who'd stopped the train from St Louis, ordered all unarmed Union troops off the train, stripped them of uniforms and valuables, then shot them down in cold blood and left the bodies alongside the railroad tracks.     Crewman identified as Carl l Israel, 2nd Lt, Bombardier, is actually Carl T(homas) Israel. Middle name confirmed to my by his nephew on 26 Nov 2012.
