Patti, I went to school with John for a few years early-on in Lansdowne/Riverview area in Baltimore. We may have played little league baseball together, I can't remember for sure. I considered him a friend. We never hung out together (too young and lived too far away), but I was interested after hearing about his death in Vietnam as to how it actually occurred. I too am a Vietnam veteran and was there in 1969 with the US Army. I contacted a guy I found online by the name of Fred Morris. Who told me "John was in my platoon as I remember. We often broke into squads so I didn't get to know him personall. He was killed on bridge guard duty. Usually it was good duty but every now and then sappers would hit them. He was a good soldier and everyone liked him." He signed the email "Fred Morris" and his email address was Fnemorris @aol.com Fred also said I could go to the Americal Division website and hit the links for D 3/1. A guy named Johnny Caldwell would help according to him, but I didn't get much from Johnny when I emailed him. Caldwell was at junglew@ticnet.com Please remember that this was in October of 2004 when I contacted both of these guys! Let me know if you find anything new on cousin John. I have a folder here at home with his military photo and it is how I remembered him alive! May God rest his soul! I have been to the Vietnam Veterans memorials in DC and Baltimore both and have seen his name on both. John will live in my heart forever! I have lost it on several occasions during visits to the monuments! The War experience is still something I will remember until the day I die!
