  • I am sure that the name above John Phaltz, bottom, lower left, is the signature of Johannes, or Col.John Jacob Weiss, Quartermaster. I suspected it after checking my notes and finally found a sample of his signature on a biographical sketch on Rootsweb; he was said to have favored using "Jac" at times instead of Jacob.
