Frank was born in Lavaca County, on a farm close to Halllettsvile, Texas, birthplace of his mother, Anna, aunts, uncles, siblings and cousins. Elise was born in East Columbia, Texas during the oil boom, her father, oil derrick worker, hunter and farmer. Being a Bohemian (Czech), she went to the 8th grade, assisting with the younger children to read and write English, her parents spoke Czech-German.
