  • This document is misplaced, as the file is intended for Francis Marion Martin of Danville, Montgomery County. This Parole of Honor appears to be for an I. J. Martin of Millican, Brazos County. It is possible he was transferred to the 24th-25th Consolidated, which operated in Texas, right at the end of the war, but he was not one of the original members of the 24th.

  • This child is Fessie Irene, not Ferrie Irene. Her parents were Marlin James Dickey and Ethel Leon Way Dickey. She died eight days later, on the 23rd of September.

  • This is Andy (Andrew) Viser McCan, (Jr.) not McCarr. He was the son of Andrew Viser McCan and Melvira (or Melvina) Young. Some family records give his birth date as 1860 rather than 1861.

  • This document is indexed incorrectly. The actual name of the claimant is Jno. A. Viser, which can be clearly seen on the voucher. He was a physician, b. ca. 1824, and probably the son of John L. and Mary Dillahunty Viser. By 1880, he is enumerated in the census of Clay County, Arkansas, living with his son of the same name. I do not know his death date. kmchett@thegateway.net

  • Ione McCan Dixon was my aunt. The first name is mis-transcribed as "Beffa," but it is "Zeffa." She always went by Ione, however, though she was known to her family as "Onie." Ione later married Carrol C. Dixon, who was called "Carl." Note that the midwife who reported the birth was her grandmother, Mrs. A. C.--Amanda Catherine--Barrett McCan, wife of James M. McCan, a Civil War soldier. ...more

  • Josephine's father, Walter McCan, was my grandfather's younger brother. The person who reported this birth, Midwife Mrs. A. C. McCan, was Amanda Catherine Barrett McCan, the father of Walter McCan. Alma McCan, Uncle Walter's wife, was Mrs. Alma McCree Rhodes, who had been his school teacher in the country school at Dickey, Leon County, Texas.
