One slight correction: From what I've found online, it looks like the two of the crew that evaded were William Rice and James Wilson. I found their E&E reports here: Wilson - http://media.nara.gov/nw/305270/EE-289.pdf Rice - http://media.nara.gov/nw/305270/EE-297.pdf What I know is that Otto Pfannebecker (Radio Op) was in fact, a POW. His leg was broken when his parachute was cut down from the tree in which he landed. In setting the leg, the doctors at the Obermassfeld Hospital 1249 removed around three inches of bone, for which Otto had to wear an elevated orthopedic shoe for the rest of his life. As one of the few members of Asher's crew to survive, Otto considered his escape from the plane nothing short of a genuine miracle, and considered every day of his remaining 63 years a gift from God. Otto died on December 27th 2006 at the age of 91. He is survived by his three children, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. -Kevin Hough (Otto Pfannebecker's grandson) ...more
