Attended West Virginia University. Sam served during WWII as a bombadier in the US Army Air Corp, 9th Air Force, flying in a B-24D Liberator. He was injured in a bombing run on Messina. He suffered severe injuries to his face and head, ultimately losing one eye. Received the Purple Heart on April 5, 1943. Honorable discharge Feb. 23, 1945. My father, 2nd Lt.
