Nancy, I have tried in my retelling of this to make sure that in every instance John Gearhart's name was mentioned to note that it was erroneus. My elderly grandmother, for whatever reason, had the names confused between Gearhart and McCurry.

Hello, I happen to be a descendant of John Elliott, who was convicted for the murder of Eli McLaughlin. John's daughter, Sarah Elliott, married Solomon Baldwin (who also was murdered, by the way). I understand John Elliott served 9 years in solitary confinement for the death of Eli McLaughlin, half of which sentence he was on a "coarse diet."
