From a researching friend... ..."the more I read, it appears that when his photo was taken, he was a student at one of the training command's service schools , if the date on the photo is correct 1945, he had already spent 2 1/2 years overseas, but did not have 3 years in yet. The lack of any service ribbons or medals may or may not mean he was in any actions, hard to tell without his service ...more

Believe that we have a match for the cap crest. If he went through a USAAF school for any technical skill, chances are he was part of this unit. OR was part of the cadre of a tech training unit.. US Army Air Force USAAF crest for the Air Corps Technical School, later, Technical Training Command, WWII See the two images uploaded.
