From a researching friend... ..."the more I read, it appears that when his photo was taken, he was a student at one of the training command's service schools , if the date on the photo is correct 1945, he had already spent 2 1/2 years overseas, but did not have 3 years in yet. The lack of any service ribbons or medals may or may not mean he was in any actions, hard to tell without his service records. Since he was wearing the generic AAF patch on his left shoulder and the training command badges says he was a student probably being retrained or receiving further training, not related to his home unit. If he was still assigned to his old unit, he should be wearing their patch. He may have been transferred IF this was after April/May 1945, he may have been training for the war in the Pacific there are a lot of maybes here..." ...more

Believe that we have a match for the cap crest. If he went through a USAAF school for any technical skill, chances are he was part of this unit. OR was part of the cadre of a tech training unit..
