Harlan P Spaulding was the Captain of Company E 7th United States Colored Troops assigned to Matagorda county, Texas after the Civil War where he took the Oath of Amnesty from my great-great grandfather, Robert Harris Williams. See A History of the 44th Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry by E. A. Nash, Chicago, 1911.

Colwell is misspelled; it should be CALDWELL. "S B T" stands for "Samuel Brooks Tobie" Caldwell (my great great grandfather) born in Weare, New Hampshire, who moved to Newburyport, Massachusetts in 1810 with his family, and then to Loudoun County in 1824. I am the great-grand niece of Laura Roberta Williams. My great grandmother was Laura Roberta's (Bert) sister, Lydia Elizabeth Williams who married George William Caldwell.

Familysearch.org has the Texas Death Records online for free, along with other primary documents. Why is Footnote charging for them? Just curious.
