According to Joseph Bruff's letter of 20 Dec 1863, Captain Jacob Heaton of the Commissary of Subsistence of Volunteers was in Chattanooga "I see Capt Heaton once in a while, he is the same Jake". Jacob Heaton is buried in Hope Cemetery, Salem, Columbiana Co., OH.

According to the "official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio" Thomas was mustered into A Company on 3/22/1864, and then on June 7th transferred to Company I. The pension card in Ancestry.com shows service in Co A, 68th Ohio Infantry.
