Jay Mayo Williams was actually born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. It is true that his older brother was born in Monmouth, Illinois (birth certificate at Warren Co. courthouse), but his family moved to Arkansas soon after. His father was murdered in 1901, so his mother returned to Monmouth with her 3 children. Also note that other records indicate Mayo was born in 1894. The 1930 and 1940 US census shows Charles at home with his parents, where he was listed as born in Michigan, not Panama. He was most definitely not of Chinese origin, as stated here. His headstone states he was born in 1923, not 1922. As to whether he was married, I cannot say.
