'42-107740' (nicknamed 'Junior') & coded 'T6-U' was a 391st Bomb-Grp Martin B.26 Marauder that had it's tail smashed by German AA.fire (88mm) on the 20th May 1944. This picture was taken at her home-base, Matching-Green, Essex, England (USAAF Station 166) after the event. 'T6-U' was eventually repaired & went on to fly-total of 96missions. This B.26 is '42-107740' .T6-U. of the (573rd B.Sq) within the 391st Bomb-Group, based at Matching-Green, in Essex, England (where this picture was taken) = 88mm shell smashed the tail on 20th May 1944; T6-U was repaired & went on to fly 96 missions

Guys, this is NEITHER of the planes you mention (but it has 'Links/Association' with each..). It's a Douglas A.26 'Invader' It replaced the Douglas A.20 on the production-line.. It ALSO replaced the Martin B.26 Marauder in the E.T.O. (European.Theatre of Op's). After WW.II the Martin B.26's were (quickly) scrapped & the 'Invader' was THEREAFTER re-designated as the (new) ...more
