Text reads: "We were attacked by fighters West of Koblenz. I saw ship number 42-7601 hit by 20mm and start burning. Ten men bailed out but one man did not open chute before he hit the undercast.

The comments added came from the original overseas movement orders of Crew #66, 703rd Bomb Squadron, 445th Bomb Group (H). The plane was lost during the transit along the Southern Atlantic route between Puerto Rico and Trinidad in the Caribbean. Loss was due to fuel transfer problem; reported by 2nd Lt Horace S. Turell, O-671144, Navigator, 703rd Bomb Squadron who was making the same transit with another crew. They heard Poor's distress call about the fuel transfer problem. ...more
