-----------------------

Jotham Hawks is my 3rd great grandfather and DAR Revolutionary War Ancestor.

I would certainly like to find that Bible.

Jotham married 1st Hannah (maiden name unknown) - she died abt. 1812 - he married second Mary "Polly" Canfield.

From Mary Hawks application for a Widows Pension included in Jotham's Rev. War Pension File dated 11 February 1854. . . .

that she was married to her
said late husband said Jotham Hawkes on the 29th day of July 1827 in
Stamford in said county by the Reverend William Cummings, a regular preacher
of the gospel who is now deceased, that no certificate of said marriage was
made out by said clergyman, that the following is a true copy of the Record
of said marriage in the large old family bible of her said late husband and
she believes said Record was made soon after said marriage and in on the
blank leaf of said Bible entitled "Family Record" Marriages" on which other
marriages in her husbands family are recorded - viz

"Jotham Hawks was married July 29th 1827 to Miss Polly Canfield of the town
of Stamford Delaware County to his second wife" that her name before her said
marriage was Mary Canfield but that she was ordinarily called Polly Canfield,
that her husband the aforesaid Jotham Hawkes died on the 14th day of December
1851 in said Colchester Delaware County NY, that she has not since been married
but has ever since remained and still is his widow, that she was not married to him
prior to the second of January Eighteen hundred but at the time above stated & she further
declares that she is now a widow.
