This aircraft, serial 42-96138, bellied in at emergency Normandy landing strip A-7 at Azeville, France on 16th July 1944, after returning badly damaged from a mission to Nantes, France.  An engine was shot out, the hydraulics damaged, and the rudder control severed. The crew managed to escape before the aircraft caught fire and burnt out. The pilot Capt. John Quinn West was awarded the DFC for his bravery shown in bringing the badly damaged aircraft back, and saving the crew. Squadrons

Hello all, I have recently been contacted by a JPAC in regards to my first cousin once removed; Abraham Korn who was the toggler/bombadier on the Bank Nite Betty. Ms. Andrea, I cannot thank you and others for putting up all these pictures and information in regards to what happened. Does anyone have any more information regards to who is who in the picture of the flight crew? I currently have no pictures of what Abraham looked like. Anyways, I thank you all so much for researching all of this information and submitting these pictures.

My father, Arthur Martin, was in the 397th from the beginning to the end. I have photos, and an original mimeographed copy of the DUC. Is there any interest in sharing? My father was an artist and I wonder if he did any of the nose art.
