My Uncle John H. Marks (Tupelo, Ms.)

| saltillo, ms.

this was my uncle , whom i never met, he was in the us navy, aboard the uss grayling, during ww ll . his submarine was sunk , he was never heard from again. He lived in Elmiria NY when he enlisted in the navy. john was highly decorated , helping save the sub at one time , i think he got the engines going again (he was a machinest mate on the uss grayling.) he was a top notch auto mechanic, being trained in his home town of tupelo,ms. during the 1930's . I think he was awarded the navy cross for his actions . I'm in the process of obtaining his navy decorations . need more info.from someone if you knew him (marks1612@bellsouth.net)
