Samuel Sherer

Samuel K. Shearer, the oldest resident of Mt. Joy Township, died at his home near Mt. Pleasant on Saturday evening, June 17 - 1911 age 90 yrs. Death was due to old age. He was a farmer the greater part of his life but had lived retired for the past 20 years. He was twice married, his first wife died 52 years ago. He was a consistent member of the Yorker denomination for many years and was highly respected by his many friends. Besides h is wife Annie he is survived by the following children - Rev. Samuel H. Shearer residing on the homestead farm, John W. Shearer of Mt. Joy township, Michael W. Shearer of Elizabethtown, Amos H. Shearer of Rapho township, Mrs. Emanuel Shelly of near Manheim, Mrs. Amos Heisey, Mrs. George Hossler of Mt. Joy township. He is also survived by 30 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday morning, followed with internment in the family graveyard on the farm. --Manheim Sentinel
