Revolutionary War soldier

| Montgomery County, New York

Albert Van Hoesen (Housen, Husen) served as a Private in the 1st New York Regiment (Van Schaick's), Tryon County Militia, Mohawk - 3rd Battalion under Col. Frederick Fisher, 6th Company under Capt. Abner French, then Capt. David McMaster.  He participated in the Battle of Oriskany fought on August 6, 1777.  It is said to be one of the bloodiest battles in the American Revolutionary War.  This was one the few battles in the war where almost all of the participants were North American: in the absence of British soldiers, Loyalists and Native Americans fought against Patriots.

Although they did not serve together in the same unit, another great-granddad of mine, Henry Staley, gave an affidavit in  support of Albert's request for a pension.  Albert returned the favor for Henry.
