J W is what his friends called him, family called him Plump, even though he was my grand daddy, I called him Daddy! J W Fanning was what we called a true Fanning, mean and tough but loved his son J W Fanning Jr and his grandson Michael W Fanning that's me. I remember him telling me how he scared death out of his room. Dad says one night he was sick laying on his bed when death came creeping in his room. Dad reaches under his pillow and pulls out his 38 pistol and says to death. If you don't git yo a** out of here I'll shoot the sh** out of you! And he said death flew up out of his room. Boy Dad was a tough ole joker!
