Taken from Harold's Obituary:

"...While serving in the Air Force during World War II, Sheahan was shot down over Vienna, Austria, taken captive by the Germans and imprisoned for a year.   He was reatriated (a prisioner of war exchange action) in 1944 because of his War injuries. Upon his return to the U.S., the government sent him, along with a number of other former POWs, on a 15,000-mile speaking tour to inform the families of ohter POWs about the hardship and brutality the POWs were experiencing at the hands of  thier enemies.

... Sheahan helped found the Satlag XVII-B organizaton after World War II and remained an active member of the Cochise Chapter of the American Ex-Prisoners of War up until his death."
