Yes, Charles was the son of Jessie Galloway and Nancy Caldwell of tn. they were married 31 July 1816. My ggg-grandmother was Jessie's daughter Sarah from his 1st wife Sarah(Sally) Williams. Jessie's father was James Galloway from Scotland. (Goodspeeds Remonoscent History of the Ozarks) I'm primarily interested in Charles because he is a main player in a story of my family. He performed an act of kindness for his sister Sarah's family shortly after the war. If you are interested in this story let me know and I'll fill you in. On the 1850 McDonald Co, MO, census: Bryant, 41, VA; Sarah, 35, TN; Louiza, 13, IN; Delila A., 11, IN; Susan J., 9, MO; James H., 7, MO; and Jese H., 5., MO.

On the 1860 census he is listed in Granby Twp, Newton Co, MO with wife, Sarah, 45, born in TN, and children Susan, 17; Harvey, 15; unreadable (probably Jesse), 11; Lucretia, 8; Alexander, 4.

Listed as head of household on the 1870 census of Newtonia, Newton Co, MO. Melvin Dewitt, age 14, son of Louisa Dewitt, also listed on census:

TRENT, Sarah, age 59, born in Tennessee

Jesse H., age 19, born in Missouri

Lucretia, age 17, MO

Betsy L., age 16, MO

Alaxander, age 14, MO

DEWITT, Melvin, age 14, MO

All in household were listed as able to read and write. None were in school. The value of their real estate was $800. The value of their personal estate was $370.

Sarah is listed on the 1850 McDonald Co, MO census with husband Bryant, 40: children Louiza, 13; Delilah, 11; Susan J., 9; James H., 7; Jessie H., 5.

Story told by Amos Porter claimed that Sarah hid out with her children during part of the Civil War in the Boston Mtns.

According to Bernice Hines, who lived with Jesse Trent and family for a year following her mother's death, he told many civil war stories. When Jesse was 12 years old, he was the oldest boy at home. Three women, including his mother, lived together east of Granby near Newtonia. It was a common experience for guerrillas from both the North and the South to come searching for horses and food. The women had a cave nearby where they hid two horses, and they had a straw tick covering a trap door to conceal their food supply. One night when a group of "bushwhackers" came by, all the children were bedded down on the tick. One of the women, not easily daunted, replied to the query, "What you got down there?" She said, "Nothing but kids. If you want 'em, take 'em. That'll be less trouble for us." And the bushwhackers left without checking!

Sarah Galloway died sometime before the 1880 census and is buried in old Granby Cemetery, although no headstone exists.
