Lt Howard Roedl, Intelligence, WW II
1945 | Bradley Field, Conn.
I am Barbi Ennis Connolly and Howie and Tess were my Godparents. Howie's Best-Man at his wedding was my Father/Edward Ennis (his wife Alta pregnant with me, is between but directly behind Howie and Tess in the wedding photo). Near the end of the War, Officers were hard to come by, so T/Sgt Edward Ennis (Combat Missions in the MTO with the 321st Bomb Group, 447th Bomb Squad, AFRICA/Italy, 1943-44, B-25 Mitchells, Airborne (RADAR/Radio/Gunner) was sent to Bradley Field Conn to run the Tower. He did and a good job at that, he was quite experienced, but an 'officer" was needed and Howie was assigned to the position, knowing not much about airplanes (ships) or Field management. . . so Ed and Howie became 'best friends' and were a TEAM. Both did most everything together, except when a "Cryptograph" message would come in, he would go and get ED, even in the middle of the night ! I asked if there was much important, Howie said "No, the UNUAL, some General going to fly in , get out the red-carpet !" :)
Tess was from the Mid-West, Howie from Wisc. and she and her family traveled by train to Conn for the wedding. They remained there until the war ended, then returned to the mid-west. Ed and his wife, Alta and now 2 daughter's Family returned to Penna where they met and Alta's home-town of Doylestown, PA. Howie and Tess were my Godparents, I was born on 4th July, 1945, the Baptism was 28 July, 1945.
More to come. Barbi Ennis Connolly, Historian for her dad/Ed's 321st Bomb Group in the 57th Bomb Wing. PRINCESSBARBI_B25@msn.com
