"Military Annals of Carroll County" is a local history of soldiers from that county. There is a brief history of the 5th Mississippi Cavalry Regiment of the Confederate army and includes a statement: "Pvt Cole was killed at Collierville". This statement is incorrect as seen by the Military Records. The 5th Miss Regiment did participate in the 3 November 1863 Battle of Collierville but Pvt Cole was not a casualty. The Battle of Fort Pillow occurred on 12 April 1864.
