My friend
Posted for: PATRICK HENRY COOK JR:

Pat Areal hero who just the night before his death helped this old medic treat many who were wounded in a mortar attack. Pat was on a resupply detail after spending his time in the bush. How ironic that an unexploded mortar from the night before was touched by a mermite can Pat was loading in a sling-in an instant Pat was gone. I miss you brother until we meet again in Heaven.

Friend
Pat was my friend, But then again Pat was everyone's friend. He was a good man with a ready smile. I remember many nights that we talked about home, family and things we were going to do when we got back. I also remember the sound of the explosion that killed Pat that morning. I had just said goodby, not knowing that would be the last time I would see him alive. "Doc"Ken, Pat and I shared some very good times and some very bad times. My friend, you are missed, and you will never be forgotten!

Friend and Medic
Pat One of the first soldiers I met in country. He made me feel right at home. Pat had done his time in the bush and worked resupply and tended bar in HHC 2/12th. On the night of Dec.12 or early morning of the 13th Pat had come out to the bush to resupply and spent the night. We were mortared and many men were wounded. He helped me (Doc) go from position to position with a light, while I patched up the wounded. He then helped us dust the wounded off in the darkness. Next morning Pat was picking up a mermite can which touched an unexploded mortar and that was all. Your a hero and deserve a medal. Rest in peace my brother. Doc. Ken

Pat, I am 61 years of age now and I still think of you often. I remember our talks in the evenings and I think of you often. I wish you could have been here at the reunion last year. We talked about you and all of us missed you dearly. I thank you for being my friend and I miss you. Until we die you will always be remembered and missed. Bill
