Eleanor "Ellen" Templeton was the widow of Rudolph Hawpe, a son of Adam Hawpe and Catharine Coiner, daughter of George Adam Coiner. Catharine Coiner and Elizabeth Coiner, wife of Jacob Spotts, were sisters. Ellen and Rudolph were married on April 15, 1819 in Rockbridge County, VA. Her sister, Mary Templeton, married Benjamin Huston. The Hawpe and Huston families lived in the area of Greenville, Augusta County, VA. In the early 1820's, Rudolph and Ellen moved to the Arrow Rock community. He died in 1849; Ellen in 1862. They are buried in the Arrow Rock Cemetery.

According to the 1850 Slave Schedule, the "Estate of R. Hawpe" included 6 slaves. ......................... Children of Rudolph Hawpe and Ellen Templeton: John (b. about 1821) married Susan M. Lawless. He died in 1875 in Tulare County, CA. He is indexed in the 1860 Foonote census as "John Haupl". .......... James (b. January 4, 1822) died on April 18, 1849 and is buried in the Arrow Rock Cemetery. .......... Benjamin Huston (b. December 12, 1823) married Frances E. Edwards on October 27, 1850. By 1870, the family was living in the area of Marshall, MO. He died on July 9, 1876 and is buried in the Ridge Park Cemetery, Marshall. .......... Robert Newton (b. about 1828) died in 1855. .......... Mary Catharine (b. July 18, 1830) married John M. Levy, Jr. on September 27, 1849. She died on July 18, 1850 and is buried in the Arrow Rock Cemetery. A son, Rudolph Hawpe Levy, was born on July 18, 1850. .......... Eliza Jane (b. June 10, 1833) married Richard P. Wall on May 19, 1853. She died on June 10, 1854 and is buried in the Arrow Rock Cemetery. .......... Martha Ellen (b. August 11, 1835) married Willliam Henry Clay McMahan on September 16, 1858. The family lived on a 760 acre farm on Camp Creek about midway between Arrow Rock and Marshall. Martha died in 1900; "Clay" in 1917. They are buried in the Ridge Park Cemetery with 7 of their 9 children. The 2 others, James and Cora, are in the Arrow Rock Cemetery.
