THE WALL

Standing here in front of the Wall
silently reading your name
solemnly I thank you one and all
Each of you different, yet the same

The list seems forever endless
but I remember your faces
you made the supreme sacrifice, I confess
as I walk slowly with measured paces

Each one of you answered the call
willingly or not, you gave your lives
Rest easy, my Brothers - heroes all
The Nation still survives

"War drew us from our homeland

In the sunlit springtime of our youth.

Those who did not come back alive remain

in perpetual springtime -- forever young --

And a part of them is with us always."

 God Bless  You

Panel 22E Line 096 25 Aug 2002 The photo and following article is taken from The Philadelphia Daily News, special supplement entitled 'SIX HUNDRED AND THIRTY,' October 26, 1987. The special supplement was issued in conjunction with the dedication of the Philadelphia Viet Nam Memorial. Even as a child, "Beas" Beasley wanted to be a Marine, his mother recalled. He graduated from Roman Catholic High School in 1965 and enlisted in the Marine Corps in February 1966. The 19-year-old private first class had recently re-enlisted and was sent to Viet Nam, where he was assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. Beasley died on July 2, 1967, in Quang Tri Province. He was survived by his parents, three brothers and a sister. SEMPER FIDELIS, MARINE! From a native Philadelphian and Marine, Jim McIlhenney
