Stories

Charley Mears, my friend and fellow soldier. Charley was also a classmate of mine in high school. We played football together an were on the wrestling team together. Charley was about the best wrestler we had then. He was a great guy, very good natured and very intelligent. Took all the college prep classes and was always running between classes. He had more energy than any ten guys. I really admired Charley and will always visit you at the "Wall", when I see all our brothers and sisters in arms. Farewell my brother, see you in heaven. BOB CALLAHAN C/87th INF. TET '68 Viet Nam

Charley Mears was the first soldier I knew to die in Viet Nam. I went to Patterson High School with Charley. I did not know him well, but I do think of him throug out the years and of the ultimate sacrifice he made. Rest in peace, my friend. Carol Costa, Class of '66, Patterson High School
