Stories

This photo is of S. J. Bickley, listed as the 13 year old son of Samuel Bickley on the 1860 census; he name was Samuel Jackson Bickley. Samuel Jackson Bickley served in the Confederacy, and his widow was awarded a pension. By 1870, he was married to Louisa Elizabeth "Lizzie" Camp, daughter of A. G. Camp and Harriet Hinton Camp from Georgia, all were living in Hunt County, Texas on the census that year. After Lizzie died, Samuel Jackson Bickley then married Eudora Phillips, he died also in Hunt County, Texas. Both Lizzie and Samuel Jackson Bickley are buried in Sonora Cemetery near Fairlie in Hunt County, Texas. Eudora filed, as the widow of Samuel Jackson Bickley, for a confederate widow's pension, which she received until her death. Samuel Jackson Bickley and Louisa Elizabeth "Lizzie" Camp Bickley were my great-great-grandparents. Leisa B. Urbantke
