Augustus D. Varrelmann served in Company H, of the 9th Alabama Infantry (Compiled Military Service Records for Confederate Soldiers From Alabama, M311; Roll #190 NARA, Washington, DC). He is carried as "Deserted to the Enemy." He then as a Private, in Company B, 28th Pennsylvania Infantry (Compiled Service Records of Volunteer Union Soldiers Who Served in Organizations from the State of PA Record Group 94: Records of the Adjutant General's Office (National Archives, Washington, DC). He is carried as "deserting near Alexandria, Virginia."
