John P. Craycroft was one of four brothers, Aaron, Benjamin, Edward Scott and John, who came from Maryland, presumably Prince George's County, to the Decatur, Illinois area of Macon County. From Decatur the brothers and their familes spread out to southern Illinois and eastern Missouri.
