1925-2008 — Hildreth, Nebraska
Ralph and Frances Bebensee were married in 1949. Ralph was born on July 16, 1925 to Gustav and Anna (Habben) Bebensee in Wilcox. He attended the Forest Valley School, District 51. He was confirmed and baptized at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Hildreth. In August of 1948, Ralph enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps where he was assigned to the Medical Corp.
Frances (Garland) Bebensee was born on January 16, 1922 to William and Valeska (Kopp) Garland, in Astoria, New York. After graduating from Bayside High School she went to Business School. She worked as a secretary for the Reynolds Metal Company and later for the New York University. In 1942 she changed direction and entered the Flushing Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1945. Frances joined the Army Nurse Corps as a First Lieutenant.
Ralph and Frances met while they were stationed at the William Beaumont General Hospital, El Paso, Texas. Their chance meeting occurred when Frances was attending her orientation tour. Suddenly she was engulfed in dirty sheets which had been tossed down by a Corpsman who was changing linens in a patient's room. The rest, as they say is history.Ralph and Frances returned to Hildreth after being discharged and farmed the Warnken Farm and later the Reese Farm. They lived in Colorado for a number of years but, decided to return to Hildreth, where they purchased the Evers place and raised pigs for 10 years. When they retired they moved into town and purchased a home on Hubbard Street.
Ralph died in October of 2008 and was laid to rest at St. Peters Cemetery.
