Did basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey and quailified as a rifleman, but the fighting was about over so he was sent to Fort McLellan, Alabama to be trained as either Miltary Police or Medical. My father chose Medical Corps and was sent to Munich Germany where he worked in a hospital during the occupation of Germany.

Studied to be a Roman Catholic Priest in the Passionist Order at their seminary near Buffalo, New York. Took vows of poverty and obedience, but got drafted before the final vow of chastity to become a priest.
