I am unaware of the gentleman's race, but there was a Floyd Thurman married to a Glenda Thurman living near Seattle, WA in the city of Mercer Island. Floyd passed away about 3 months ago. Perhaps there may be some confusion and overlapping information. I have never met the couple.

My Uncle Floyd Thurman was born in Talihina, OK, his mother was Susan Thurman and fathe Lewis Thurman. He is listed as race White. My uncle was African American. I was at his funeral and burial at FT Smith, AR national Cemetery. His sister Almeta Thurman Jackson and my mother Mabel Thurman McClendon were his immediate family. I have census records and a death record from Rowell Funeral Home. My grandfather and his father was listed as Mulatto on a census 1920. My uncle Samuel Thurman lived in Seattle Washington, so I can concieve of him enlisting in Portland Oregon. However the mixed files should still list him as African American.
