"Jack" James Jackson Porter

San Diego, California

Jack Porter was my mother's brother, his wife's name was Opal they married after the war, they had no children of thier own but he loved Opal's as if they were his. He was kind, intelligent and had a wicked sense of humor, he was my mother Doxie Madelline "Matt" Porter's favorite brother, he carried the Porter name James that has gone back through our family since the 1600's, my son James is named after him as is my brother Lawrence James Ladd.  I never heard a swear word out of that man in all my life, he typified the quietness and intelligence of the Cherokee people that we come from, though he is listed as White on his enlistment, his father was a full blood and it was a time in our history that being Indian wasn't something that got you places in life. He also had brothers William"Bill" , John F., and sister Mable "Jo" who served in WWII
